The Defense of One is the Defense of Both

So, I see this Nancy Grace v 2 Chainz (wow…that hurt just to type) video popping up and I’m foolish enough to weigh in on it: they’re both right.

There are idiots all throughout the world who will gladly take any awesome thing they find and make it seem like the worst idea man has ever come up with. For instance: liquor, when enjoyed responsibly, is AMAZING. I love nothing more than to chill wit my peoples, have a few drinks, BS and play NBA 2K. Everybody lives, no one does anything stupid. Liquor, when enjoyed by dumbasses, creates statistics like these,

  • Nearly 88,000 people (approximately 62,000 men and 26,000 women) die from alcohol related causes annually, making it the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States.
  • In 2012, alcohol-impaired-driving fatalities accounted for 10,322 deaths (31 percent of overall driving fatalities) *stats from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism*

So to Nancy’s point of there being people who would abuse weed if legalized and do, literally, the dumbest things possible (i.e. trying to get a 2 yr old to smoke), she’s right. There will undoubtedly be those people out there who have MUCH bigger issues than just the weed that they’re smoking.

On the flip side, 2 Chainz is just as right…again…the pain. For every reckless user you have out there, there would be scores more that would use it for a myriad of things ranging from problems sleeping to loss of appetite to extreme aches and pains. As someone who suffers from all of the above, I would LOVE to see weed legalized seeing as how not a single doctor from NY to NC can tell me what’s wrong with me….but I digress. As far as being able to get hands on weed, hell, who can’t? It’s no different from the days of bootlegging liquor. Just because something is illegal doesn’t mean people won’t still do it. There are quite a few families that got wealthy from doing just that (I’m looking at you Kennedys).

So, to call back to the title and round up the minor point I’ve been making throughout these ramblings, if we’re going to let alcohol rock, why not weed? Alcoholism is a real disease. We know it exists, yet liquor is still readily available to anyone of age and usually those underage. There is no such equivalent for weed. There is no addiction there. And don’t let people fool you who claim that shit. They’re just looking for a way out of a problem they’ve yet to truly grasp. We know there is a humanly unacceptable amount of death associated with liquor. There are statistics, like those given above, that come directly from our own government. The closest thing you can equate those stats to with weed is propaganda films which, while hilarious, have as much fact in them as your average argument over who’s the best rapper out right now.

So let’s just collectively cut the bullshit, legalize weed, tax it like cigarettes and cut a deal with all the brown countries that grow the best shit until the US can figure out how to cut them out of it….I mean…because that’s clearly how it would work *shrug*
